Shamaershayi Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section lies west of Yangbulak and east of Baerqimu-Bulak, Mori County, Xinjiang. It was named by Gao Yunsheng in 1970.
Lithology and Thickness
Sandstone, Limestone and Volcaniclastics. A suite of neritic terrigenous normal clastic rock and carbonate rock formation, in which are intercalated intermediate lava, pyroclastic rock, tuffaceous clastic rock and minor mudstone and siliceous rock. West of Yangbulak, it comprises dark-gray and yellow-green feldspar-rich grit, sandstone-conglomerate, siltstone, carbonaceous silty mudstone, calcareous sandstone, sandy limestone, gray limestone, oolitic limestone, siliceous limestone and calcareous conglomerate. Exposed thickness 816.3 m. Eastward to the southwestern part of the No. 2001 Highland in the Qijiaojing sheet, it is composed of gray-purple and yellow-green andesite, andesitic porphyrite, tuff, tuff sandstone-conglomerate and tuff siltstone; exposed thickness 697.8 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Unconformable contact with the underlying Shaleisaierk Fm at type section; unconformable contact with the underlying Yangbulak Fm at No. 2001 Highland outcrop.
Upper contact
Unknown: Top is not seen
Regional extent
Distributed around Shamaershayi on the west end of Shamatawu

Fossils
No. 2001 Highland outcrop has Brachiopods Buxtonia sp., Dictyoclostus sp., Neospirifer sp., etc.

Depositional setting
It is interpreted as neritic clastic and carbonates with intercalated volcanics.
